I am originally from London and relocated to the midlands many years ago. After a number of moves I have now settled in Lubenham, which is near to Market Harborough, and where I have my studio. I have been a member of Market Harborough Art Club for over 30 years and chairman on several occasions. I have been painting seriously for most of my life and when I started I vowed that I would master watercolour before trying other mediums. Well I am still working in watercolour – does anyone ever master this most difficult of mediums? My paintings are predominantly landscapes, townscapes and waterscapes. These have proved popular over the years and I regularly undertake commissions of, among other things, people’s houses, the church where they married, and the village or town in which they live. More recently, setting my earlier vows to one side and in complete contrast to my watercolours, I have branched out into abstracts. I work in acrylics, oils, watercolours, pen and mixed media and love the freedom abstracts give me to concentrate on form, composition, colour, and style which are so often inhibited when painting realism. I also love the different techniques I can use whether it be the method of applying paint, from wire wool or fingers, or from the different methods used including mono-prints, liquid pour and dendritics. I also enjoy drawing cartoons which have been regularly used in various local publications. I often think it a shame that more artists don’t try their hands at cartoons which I find help so much in improving the skills of reducing and simplifying images: a skill not to be overlooked when tackling complicated subjects for example. My works are included in private collections not only in the UK but also as far afield as Canada, America, India, Australia, Italy, France, Belgium, Cyprus, Burma and Bangladesh.
